Hello,

My fuel gauge was not working so, I did some research on this forum and got a wealth of information. Which has corrected my fuel gauge problem, and many more, in addition.

Having determined that the fuel level gauge problem was in the fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank. (all infor from this forum) I would be necessary to gain access to said fuel pump and sending unit.

I cut a patch in the top of my floor board (back seat, driver side). This procedure full covered here. after cutting the hole in the floor, I installed a sheet metal patch.

Then, (disconnect battery and all power) cut electrical leads, unscrew pump assembley and lift from tank. (see pictures. Worth a thousand words.)

Problem was, the float had a hole and filled with fuel. Would not float of course.

Removed copper float, located and repaired lead by soldering. I am in process of procuring a new float. (also recievedh that info here. )

Clean all parts, test on bench. and reinstall.

There is also much info on this forum about disconnecting the duckbill quick connectors on the fuel lines. Hint: drill a small hole at the female end of fitting and pry out the steel clip. They are easy to remove. I left mine out, but use the safety clips. I will evenuall replace them as it is a huge safety factor.

Sure is good to see the gass level again. And, also, the knowledge that I can access the fuel pump and assembly within 15 minutes.

And, it is only necessary to remove passenge side set to get to fuel tank and pump. Check out pics.

Good job buddy. I am in the process of swaping out a sending unit right now for my daughter. What did you use to cut the floor? I dropped the tank so i could use an angle grinder.

Fuel tank lever gauge now working.

Good job buddy. I am in the process of swaping out a sending unit right now for my daughter. What did you use to cut the floor? I dropped the tank so i could use an angle grinder.

Thanks for compliment. But, I just followed advise from this site.

I used an angle grinder to cut the 7 inch hole. I did drill chase holes after marking off the area to cut.

I did not drop the tank. It is probable safer. But, if you reach under the left tire well, you will fell the top of the tank and the fuel pump. That will give you some guidance and and idea where the pump goes into top of the fuel tank. Also, I took a piece of sheetmetal and fitted it between underside of the floor and top of the fuel tank. The sheet metal should lay on top of the two rubber fuel oil lines also. I also wet some rags and stuffed up under there just for some additional safety.

Most likely, you will find a hole in the float. around the area where the float attaches to the wire arm which hold the float in place.

Drain out the fuel from the float, clean and solder up leaking areas. I have a 200 watt electrical soldering gun. And it was plenty of heat.

Good luck and let me know how you make.

Rememeber, safety first. You wont make your daughter very happy if you injury your self. Also use gloves and goggles.

While I was cutting the hold, the angle drill got away from me and cut through one of the fingers of the glove, cutting my finger ever so slightly.

If I had not gloves on, I would have lost a finger or at least went down to the bone.
