Hello,
My fuel gauge was not working so, I did some research on this forum and got a wealth of information. Which has corrected my fuel gauge problem, and many more, in addition.
Having determined that the fuel level gauge problem was in the fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank. (all infor from this forum) I would be necessary to gain access to said fuel pump and sending unit.
I cut a patch in the top of my floor board (back seat, driver side). This procedure full covered here. after cutting the hole in the floor, I installed a sheet metal patch.
Then, (disconnect battery and all power) cut electrical leads, unscrew pump assembley and lift from tank. (see pictures. Worth a thousand words.)
Problem was, the float had a hole and filled with fuel. Would not float of course.
Removed copper float, located and repaired lead by soldering. I am in process of procuring a new float. (also recievedh that info here. )
Clean all parts, test on bench. and reinstall.
There is also much info on this forum about disconnecting the duckbill quick connectors on the fuel lines. Hint: drill a small hole at the female end of fitting and pry out the steel clip. They are easy to remove. I left mine out, but use the safety clips. I will evenuall replace them as it is a huge safety factor.
Sure is good to see the gass level again. And, also, the knowledge that I can access the fuel pump and assembly within 15 minutes.
And, it is only necessary to remove passenge side set to get to fuel tank and pump. Check out pics.
