Fuel Problems ????

Need some serious advise. I thought that my fuel pump went out because I could not hear it turn on any more, so I did the dirty deed and put a new one in. That was a chore with a full tank a gas. Anyway, I got it changed and it started right up. Hurray!!! I drove it around for a 15 - 20 minutes and even let it sit and idle for about another 15 - 20 minutes at home before shutting it off.
The next day, I get in it and the damn thing would not start. The engine would crank good but it would not fire up.
Now, when I turned the key into the on position the day before when it started, I noticed that I did not hear the pump come on. I just figured that the reason I heard the pump turn on before was that it was on the verge of going out and that the new pump was just more quiet.
What could the problem possibly be.... Please Help. :mad: :confused: :(

I would check the wiring to the fuel pump. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a loose/dirty connection in a connector near the pump. When you changed the pump, the act of disconnecting/reconnecting a connector could have cleaned up the connection and allowed it to make contact for a time, but the connection has come loose again. Be sure to check all of the wiring to the fuel pump, if you don't see something obvious.
 






Mr. Shorty is right, check the electrical to the pump. First, check the fuse, its a 20 amp. Next, check your Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch.f the engine bogged, the IFS can trip and shut off fuel thinking its being slowed as yo cras into a car. If those are ok, then check your connections at the pump. I know its a pain to drop the tank, but necessary. You can lower it with a jack under it and check from behind the driver side tire. You should read 12-14 volts at the pump... this will tell you its getting power at the pump correctly. For the best test, do as follows...

1. disconnect wires from pump.
2. Short the right side pin of the datalink connector (located behind the fuse panel under the hood... the upside of the connector is the angles. The pin can be shorted to the frame or to a ground).
3. Turn the key on.
4. Monitor the power on the connector.
It should read 12-14VDC for about a minute. Then it will drop to 8-10 volts. This is normal and shows that the pcm is working the pump right.

I recommend using electrical component cleaner on the leads and on the connector. You can then smear some tune-up grease (dielectric grease) on the connectors to prevent corrosion or no contact surfaces.

Triple-check your ground for continuity... a loose ground = no pump. Even with voltage at the harness. Also check the vacuum tube to the regulator, make sure its free of any damage or looseness.
 






check the pump relay right under the fuse block in the engine compartment...it gets stuck everyonce in a while, so thunk it on something hard a few times. it that doesbnt work snap the cover off and free it yourself. then check the rest of what they said
 






Check the fuel pressure also. It might not be putting out enough pressure. It could also be a bad crankshaft position sensor..
