Yeah that sounds like a good idea. :D

Alot of people on the forum like the Walbro pumps. I have one myself. The Walbro GSS340.
Right now I have the exact same mods on my 96 that you have.
But I also have a supercharger and 42lb fuel injectors going on, hence the higher flow(255LPH) pump.
If you dont plan on bigger injectors or anything to radical, the stock pump flows something like 190LPH, which is still quite healthy.
I got my pump for i think $90.

If I get a higher flow pump will it effect my gas milage?

That depends on your right foot!:D
The PCM will control fuel flow based on the amount of air entering the engine so (and i,m no expert) it should,nt matter if you have a high flow pump since it will control flow based on your engines air intake requirements to keep a safe air/fuel ratio under all rpms and loads.
Simple answer is no.
Do you have custom tunes loaded on your Livewire? If so the tuner has already made the necessary adjustments for air and fuel and the Livewire doesnt know what size fuel pump you have.
All my tunes are for street or towing performance. My mileage didnt get better or worse. Performance got better but at a price since now I have to run premium fuel, so thats where it hits the pocket book.

Yeah I have similar tunes. I may in the future go with forced induction so I may as well get the fuel pump for it especially if it won't hurt anything. Thank you

What is the LPH for the stock fuel pump?

his explorer is a '98. Last I checked, returnless fuel systems didn't start on the explorer till '99. Therefore, his PCM has no control over fuel flow at all.

That being said, a larger fuel pump won't effect your gas mileage at all. Your '98 has a return style fuel system. What this means is that there's a restriction in the fuel system on the back side of the injectors that keeps ~39psi of fuel pressure in the rails. Any excess fuel beyond the volume needed to maintain this pressure just flows past the restriction, and back to the tank. One thing to note about this process is that the pump is cooled by fuel AND picks up additional heat from under hood. So if you have a pump thats ridiculously oversized (for instance the Walbro GSS340 that some have mentioned) you end up unnecessarily heating up your fuel because a ton is being cycled back to the tank. If you never plan on adding addtional mods, the stock 190lph pump is PLENTY. Trust me. The 5.0 mustangs, that made 10 more hp than our explorers, had only an 88lph pump (cobras got a 95)!

Yeah I'm looking at the ford racing pump linked above it's 190 lph. I wasn't looking at going crazy above stock as forced induction won't come any time soon. :D Thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

Will this ford racing pump be a direct fit? What kind of fabrication would have to be performed if not? Where should I purchase it? I don't really want to buy it online if I will have issues installing it. I just want to make sure it says it is for 86-97 mustangs.

no farbrication will be needed as you won't be getting everything in that picture. You'll just be getting the pump itself, and will have to splice it in. Really not that hard.

Ok I am finally getting around to doing this. I wanted to make sure that I splice the wires correctly. The factory pump has a white with black stripe and a Black wire going into it. The Ford Racing pump has a red and a black going into it. I am assuming that I just connect the red to white with black stripe and the blacks. Is this correct???

By the way I did get everything in the picture. I am just swapping the pump though.

Anybody????:feedback:

sorry, I never saw this. I'm assuming by now that you've figured out what would you did should work just fine.
