Fuel System Problem

I have a problem with my '94 Explorer. I am having a problem with starting it. I can drive for about a week with no problem, but then I get stuck somewhere because it won't start. The only way we can get it to start is spraying starter fluid in it. That worked for a few times, now it won't start at all. We tried the starter fluid one more time and got it to idle on its own but when I tried to push the gas pedal, it died. we got it started again and it would accelerate by manually spraying starter fluid into the throttle body, bypassing the air intake. when we put the air intake back in place, it died. I have taken it to a mechanic, but it never does the same thing to him. He fixed vacuum leaks and advanced the timing, replaced the air cleaner and fuel filter. It ran great for about three weeks then started again. Now it won't run at all. HELP! The only thing the mechanic can tell me is that it could possibly be the fuel/ oxygen ratio?

welcome to the site... sounds like a fuel problem if it worked with the strting fliud... did something trip the inertia switch? done that... look towards a failed fuel pump in the tank... thats about all ican think of right now....

def feul pum mine does the same thing what i did to mine was take the pump out ans soke if over night to get it to run becase iu had to drive the next day a good test to find out if it is bad when it hapense check for contunity betweent the two leads on the pum there is 4 leads one us hould get contunity and read 15 -250 ohms and that tells the fuel gauge to tell you how much fuel you have then the other two is your pump then if u have conuity ther e and it wount start sheck for voltage to the pump and the pump should read about 1- 2 ohms i think and if that does not work i have more rticks up my sleve
