I was about to order new gears and an e-locker when a co-worker mentioned that he had the axles out of an 88 Bronco (He went 1 ton). The axles have 4:56 gears, detroit in the rear and an e-z locker in front. I have a 91 4 door with a 4 inch front lift and spring over on the rear. Other than width issues does anyone have thoughts on this swap.

You will be getting a D44 TTB up front.

More work than it is worth in my opinion. You would need new wheels for sure because the bolt pattern is different and chances are the front lift will not work with the larger beams.

Also that year would have a 8.8 rear, the same as you have now, minus the difference in width. So even if you could get the front to work, rearwise your just getting the 4.56 gears and locker, not much increase in strenght.

Well, he is getting the correct width and bolt pattern to match the front. Which brings up another point, you are looking at new wheels at this point.

If the 4.56s are what you want to go with, and the deal is GREAT, I would get the rear and then look for a solid D44 full-width for the front. That is a lot of work to go through just to end up with a bigger TTB.
