Gas Mileage Improvement

If you're skeptical because you don't understand the conecpt or think that it's only sold on late night TV to get groggy consumers to purchase it, I'm not telling you to go out and get it. I got it, and I immediately saw results.

Why don't you try a little test; remove the device and do a mileage run, reinstall and repeat the evaluation?

Okay, there has been a lot of negativity towards my post, so I'd like to clear some things up.

No, I do not work for the tornado company.

No my mileage isn't improving because of the way I drive. Actually, I'm driving a little harder now because her acceleration is a lot better.

I drive back and fourth from NY to PA about 9 times a year. Never have I made it to NY and back to my house on one tank of gas. Last week I did it. 385 miles on one tank of gas. And no, I don't drive at 60, 65 or 70. Typically the cruise is set somewhere between 75 and 85 depending on where I am during the trip.

You can all say what you want about it. If it doesn't work for you, then okay. It works for me. I don't know what the HP difference is, I just know it accelerates faster. I don't know how it's affected my fuel economy, all I know is that it is. I've now seen it work on three different vehicles. Mine, my gf's 2002 Chrysler Sebring and my uncle's 99 Exepedition.

If you're skeptical because you don't understand the conecpt or think that it's only sold on late night TV to get groggy consumers to purchase it, I'm not telling you to go out and get it. I got it, and I immediately saw results.

It's been dyno-proven time and time-again by other members on these boards, and the scientific principles behind it are, well, un-scientific to say the least. Yet because you manage to get the factory-advertised highway mileage while driving on the highway, it must be the result of the Tornado.

Whatever....

I also, I just installed the K & N Air Filter, so I'm waiting to see what additional improvements I get.

Helping the engine to breathe better couldn't possibly have anything to do with your increase in efficiency, could it?

I routinely get 310 miles out of a tank in combined highway/city driving. This is a 100% stock '95 with a 4.0L pushrod engine.

I've posted this before and I'll repeat. I put a Tornado in my 2001 X w/5.0 engine...yes I saw a difference in gas mileage. I was getting 16 city/18 highway..sometimes 20 or 21 interstate...before the Tornado install. After install, I was getting 13-14 city/ 16 highway. Also, with the Tornado installed the X felt like it was having breathing problems. Sooo, after about 3 months I removed the Tornado and gas mileage has improved. It was the worst investment I've ever made. And I was past the "total refund" time period so I'm stuck with an expensive, round, shiny piece of tin.

I've owned my truck for 2 years before I put the Tornado in. I know what I was getting with my gas mileage. I was only getting around 230ish miles per tank. Now I'm getting near 300. It's not just the K&N Air Filter I put in either. I saw an improvement before I put the filter in. Actually after I put the filter in, I haven't seen much more improvement.

Look, ya don't wanna believe me, fine. It's not a big deal. It works for me, and I guess that's all that really matters.

Why don't you take it out and see what happens to your mileage?

But why do that if I kept track of my mileage for the two priors years of owning the vehicle.

Look everyone, I'm sorry I brought this up, I was just trying to be helpful with my experiences.

If you took the device out and did a gas mileage run, it would prove you increase.

Removing the device is a 5 minute job.

Give it a go ....

I owned my X 3 years before I put the Tonado in, ran quite a few full tanks of gas, took the Tornado out after 3 maybe 4 months. It made my gas mileage go down so now its back it in cute lil box on a shelf in the garage.

You can dispute this all you want. I check my mileage regular. I even have a spreadsheet to track type gas, mpg. I installed a tornado. My mileage increased 1.5 mpg. The tornado capital return will take 141 days considering my daily miles.

Okay, well I did it and my miles per approx 16 gallons went from 290ish down to 253. That's up from what it used to be, but that's because of the K&N Air Filter I'm assuming.

Like I said before, it's working for me. For whatever reason it is. Maybe it's the atmosphere I'm driving in. I live in the Mt's of PA. Maybe the Tornado is giving me better gas mileage with all the uphill driving I do. Who knows what the reason is...I'm not a scientific kinda guy. All I know is my uncle recommended it to me because it increased the mileage in his Expedition, so I put one in.

I'm not losing my mind. I know how far it used to get me and how far a tank of gas is getting me now. There is a big increase. If it didn't work for you, or you don't think it can work, or you have scientific evidence it didn't work for you, that's all fine and wonderful. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but it has worked for me.

I'm trying to get her over 300 miles per tank full but can't afford any major modifications to her right now. If anyone has any other cheap helpful tid bits, I'd love to hear them. Basically I really don't want to hear anymore about the Tornado.

Heck, I get more than a 1.5mpg increase when they switch from the regular gas to the reformulated summer mix every spring. If I installed a Tornado at the same time, I'd see a 3 mpg increase!!

A question I haven't seen addressed: If it really did work, why aren't the OEMs installing them at the factory on the entire vehicle line? If there was an innovative product that actually helped the consumer increase their mileage by 10%, don't you think that they would embrace that technology?? If nothing else, wouldn't they do it just to help the CAFE numbers?? Oh, I'm sure it's some sort of corporate conspiracy to keep fuel economy down and keep oil imports up... yeah, that's it!!

I get around 300 miles to a tank currently on a bone-stock powertrain (save for the K&N that only gets cleaned avery 50k or so). No modifications are necessary to do so. 300 miles at 14mpg only needs 21.4 gallons of gas. 300 miles at 16 mpg only requires 18.75. I manage to pull around 18 mpg if I do a lot of freeway driving, which only requires 16-2/3 gallons. It's a squeeze with the 17-gallon tank on the sport, but I can do it if I try.

I have to make a trip to Naples, FL, tomorrow; 100 miles each way.

I have a friend who fell for the Tornado adds and is letting me borrow his, after all since it did nothing for him, it is sitting on a shelf in his garage,

I am making one leg of the trip with the Tornado installed and then removed for the return trip.

Data soon .....

My Tornado hurt more than it helped. I've said all I'll say about the Tornado for now. Explrr96XLT, you don't want to hear anymore about the Tornado? Remember, you did start this thread. <smile>
I still want to see what aldive has to say about it after his trip.

300+ mile tank... cake!

Well, there's several ways you can get better gas mileage. The cheapest is to take a good hard look at your right foot. Easy-going on the throttle will guarantee results. But if you're looking to mash the gas and go fast, well, gas mileage is sure to tumble. Very few cars will work against that philosophy, short of some of the turbodiesels I've seen.

I routinely get 300+ tanks in the summertime. 2 weekends ago I averaged 22.8 mpg on a trip from Minnesota to northern WI. Most of the driving was 65 mph, with a bit of small town driving mixed in. The weekend prior I eeked out 370 miles on a tank at mostly 70+ mph, and refilled only 18.4 gallons meaning I had at least 1 gal in reserve. Trip computer said 20.8 mpg on that trip.

Mods = K&N filter, Borla exhaust, and a skinned roof (x-rails gone). Oh yeah, no A/C either (haven't had that luxury for years).

In terms of increasing engine efficiency? Breathing easier helps for sure. The K&N and Borla have both combined to add about 2-3 mpg. Not sure of the HP increase... probably not much, maybe 10 at best, but throttle response is definitely snappier, and it just plain sounds/looks better. Keep your filter clean, throttle body clean, and tires properly inflated, and you'll be doing the best you can.

aldive, thanks for the info. You got the same results I got with the Tornado. I guess you live and learn. Now...what to do with this shiny round piece of usesless tin ?!? I'm past the "full refund" time period.

Sell it on eBay; some fool will purchase it.

Good luck .......

what might work for some fool!!! might not work for you. I am sure under the right circumstances there would be some improvement just like in your case under certain circumstances there is a explorer out there that supposedly gets wicked good fuel mileage.
