So many of you know this, I had to take my car to the shop to have the transmission basically completely rebuilt... if I gave you a list of everything that was done to it, it would take me forever to list it all. Anyway, I had that done at about 94000 miles. I'm now about 700 miles beyond that, and getting TERRIBLE gas mileage. Before Zoe went to the shop, I was getting about 20 mpg... Now, I'm lucky to get 15. I used to get over 250 (almost 300) miles per tank, and the other day when my gas light popped on I was just over 200 miles. :censored: I'm thinking maybe they forgot to plug one of my o2 censors back in, but I'm not sure how much that would really affect my gas mileage...

Is this something I'm just gonna have to get used to now that I have all new trannie guts? Or should I be calling that shop back and saying wtf??

update: pulled 3 spark plugs, and they seemed to be fine, plus we pulled an o2 censor and it was fine too.... no idea where to go next.

The tranny rebuild should have nothing to do with the mileage unless something like an O2 sensor was left unhooked. But that would set a check engine light.

Questions....it's not in 4 wheel drive is it,does it run the same as before. Is 15 your hwy miles or around town miles? :D

the 15 is both... its my total average gas mileage. yiiiikes.

and i think i figured out what it was, i had done the zip tie on the throttle cable mod, and i took it off yesterday just because it didn't seem to be helping. come to find out, it was making a HUGE difference, but i think it was messing with my rpm's... so now i'm on a mission to see if thats what it was.

oh and i don't have 4wd... i have all the wiring but i'm 2wd

Go for a drive on the highway--hold it at a steady 65 mph for about 1 minute, and tell us what the RPM's are. Try not to push the gas pedal at all after you achieve 65 MPH to get an accurate assessment if the torque converter is locking or not. An unlocked torque converter will result in mileage loss like you describe.

Also, press the overdrive button. Does it turn the light on and off?
