Hey guys, I'm lookin at purchasing an explorer pretty quick here, and was wondering what kind of gas mileage to expect form the 4.0L, in the 91-94 model, 4x4, with an auto. What kind of mileage are you getting? grade of fuel? mods? thanks guys

about 12 miles a gallon on unleaded on city and about 17 on highway

Approx. 12-14 city 18-20 highway. Regular unleaded. All stock.

i just got back from a 2000 mi highway trip,
and got 19 mpg.that was with 4 people
big cargo carrier on top,& the a/c on.
in the city i get about 14.

Hey shauno as another Canadian I can tell you my best was a recent road trip ,536 km.per tank 63litres to fill so about 24 mile to the gallon in my 92,remember our gallon is bigger than the U.S. one, I average 450 km. per tank full to empty. hope this helps.

Thanks guys, thats not too bad I guess.....

hey toad, thanks, 450km to a tank is pretty decent, my 95 3.0L Ranger gets a little less than that....Anything around 400 per tank is great.

I guess comparatively speaking, my 12-13mpg around town isn't as bad as I thought... I think I averaged about 15mpg on the highway...

i get about 20 mpg with my 96 4.0 auto but thats with borla and k&N

My old '92 Sport w/5spd and a cat back Flowmaster averaged about 18-20 mpg. Best I ever got was 22 on a long trip. Around town, the worst I got was about 16.

16 in town and 20 on the highway, 106,000 miles.

We can get 25 on the higway and 20 in town, all stock except for some replacement parts.

200 miles per tank.... like 10 city and 15-20 on the hiway.....but i have bad o2 sensors and probably a dirty mas, operate once and awhile on 5 cylinders, no aerodynamics, k&n filter flow 40 muffler, and 31s with 3.73 gears and automatic

Gas milage???? What's that???? :)

I don't keep track anymore. I can tell you my 94 sport did 355 miles on a full tank of gas bone stock on 87, without the AC on & 1 person(me) on a 3000 mile HW trip.

But now with all the mods I have done, I get around 215 miles on a full tank, with the AC on, 1 person, & HW/City mix.

I average about 17 mpg with combined city and highway driving using midrange gas (89 octane). My truck is a mostly stock automatic, with 31's and 3.73 gears.

I get an average of 16 - 19 MPG (combined freeway and city) depending on traffic. That's with 87 octane and add-ons listed in sig.

I get around 16-18 mpg. I can drive around 330 miles until the "Check Gage" light comes on. But in order to get this kind of mileage, I need to drive like a grandpa...slow starts and early brakings (I'm only 19!!!). Oh well, it's all good.

great, thanks guys, that kinda mileage isn't too bad, about the same as my truck....I'm goin explorer shopping this weekend :)

Gas=Cash

Hey i have a 91 sport eddie baur and i get around 15mpg city and about 18-19 highway. I dunno why..but when i first bought it..i was gettin like 12mpg and now it moved up to 15..but, hey, im not complaining!!

14-16 City and 18-20 Highway Regular Unleaded
Get about 350 miles to Tank.

I average 20-22mpg city and highway combined. That is unless my wife decides to turn the overdrive off then I have seen the mileage as bad as 18mpg.

Truck is completely stock.
