Hello-

I seem to have a problem with my gas pedal and it sticking. It usually sticks, or is at least hard to press in smoothly when i first start my car and go to reverse or pull away.

Does anyone know what I might be able to do for this?

Thanks!

First thing you should do is see if it's the pedal itself, the throttle cable, or the throttle linkage. You'll be able to inspect the movement of the cable and linkage under the hood connected to the throttle body.

had mine do the same thing about a month ago. lube up the throttle linkage and spring and spray some carb cleaner down the intake. mine had a small amount of gunk built up around the throttle body. The carb cleaner cleaned it right up, no more stickin throttle.

Please look in the projects and need for speed forums for my installation threads.

Go to Ford and have them replace your throttle body under recall.

Recall 00V422000: Throttle Body Sticking

Sport utility vehicles equipped with 4.0L SOHC engines and still retain the original throttle body (Part Numbers 97JF-9E926AB or 97JF-9E926-AC). Some of the original throttle bodies installed allowed a gap between the plate and bore to be built too narrow. This reduced clearance allowed the engine deposits normally present in the throttle body to contact or bridge the gap. If the engine deposits bridged the gap between the throttle plate and bore and then hardened, on the initial application of the accelerator pedal after the engine has cooled, the operator would need to apply additional force to the accelerator pedal to break the bridge.

This could result in engine surge when the accelerator pedal breaks free.

Dealers will replace the original throttle bodies.

Owner notification is expected to begin during March 2001. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Robert is on the money with this one. I had it done once under warrenty and once under recall later when they actually fixed the problem.

Get it done. It's a real safety hazard.

Never had the problem with my 97 Sport, but I got the new throttle body setting in the box at home...:D
