please help mine does it too.

try hitting the throttle body linkage with some wd40 and clean the throttle body

Do you have the SOHC engine? If so, there is a recall on that. I used to have a 97 SOHC that developed the same symptom, it was covered under the recall.

yep i have the SOHC, i've never had to do a recall... do i just take it to any ford dealer around here and they fix it and it's overwith?

my ranger did that while i was driving around with a broken EGR valve. i bypassed the valve and it went away. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why this could be happening, but it was. The pedal would only stick at idle, but it would do it all the time, like every time i let off the throttle it would stick. and the longer i let it idle the harder it would stick, till it got to the point that i had to literally stomp on the gas to get the pedal to move. Weird, huh?

Yep. Free of charge. All you lose is your time. While you're there ask them what else you have recall on that hasn't been done yet.

Clean the throttle body . Both my 5.0 and my 4.0 explorers have gotten sticky . They pile carbon up on the throttle body walls surrounding the throttle plate and iy makes it stick closed .
Mine were worst in the mornign when first fired up , you'd have to push the pedal pretty good and it would pop loose . The 4.0 got to where it was sticky going back down before I got off my lazy duff and cleaned it .
The recall on the shoc's I believe was for the cruise control cable sticking and causing the throttle to hang open . I also think Ford has a recall for northern driven X's that have the throttle body freezing up and sticking .

I'm having the same problem. Doesn't Ford have to mail you recall letters to get recall work done?

Yes, free of charge, they replaced the throttle body. I would call the dealer and say it is in regards to safety recall 00S58.

Hi Sport4x4,

My notice states that if you do not have the letter, the dealer will still replace free of charge. I would call the dealer and inquire.
