And the fun keeps on funning

shift indicator hasn’t indicated in a while. Needs to work for inspection.

took the panel and plate off and expected to find a broken plastic piece like all the youtube videos said. But what I found is different.

the whole damn cable has come unhooked.

if I knew what these parts were called I’d research it myself but I’m 3 hours into this and ready for many a beer.

appreciate all the help so far 🍻

First thing I’d do is find another inspection station. Are the clips that hold it together broken?

No. The whole assembly is still in one piece

So I felt bold and took off the dash console. This was pretty easy as I found a great video on YT and I had replaced all the dash lights to LEDs a few years back (my friend did the bulk of the work removing the dash, I replaced the lights 💪).

luckily enough, the cable just frayed up near the spring and it’s now finding a replacement part. The piece that I’ve seen broken on about 100 videos is still intact. Just my luck.

I googled the part number on the side of this thing (F87F-A) and something about a 1925 Bonneville came up. I found that funny

Looks like the cable was never available separately. You'll have to purchase the whole indicator assembly - if you can find one. A visit to the junkyard is probably a better option.

Junk yard for sure
Any 95-01 Explorer or Mountaineer, 98-2011 Ranger/ Mazda b2500/b3000 or b4000 will all have that same part.
Bring your 7mm, 8mm and 5.5mm sockets

$45 on ebay?!?????????????????????!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man..... I have had like 200 of these things pass through my hands.......

I’ve found some replacements online for 15 bucks that I’m gonna get. I’ve got the thin airplane cable at work that I’ve used in the past to hang graphics from. It’s got a clear coating on it that I’m gonna get once we open back up and see if I can’t replace it myself. Just as a project. Def not going to use it
