Gear shift is stuck in park when cold.

I have a 1998 Explorer. When the engie is cold I cannot move the automatic gear stick our of Park. The brake lights are OK: anyhting else to check? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure if it matters or not but, 2dr or 4dr, which engine?

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. Check the shift interlock assembly under the steering column. It might need to be lubricated. There is a TSB on the electric actuator.
