Glen's 96 XLT

This is my 96 Explorer D.D. slow moving project, was bought in September of 07. XLT model which is like XLS model, power windows/mirrors and that's it.

Mods:
Removed the running boards
Brown-Wire-mod but have swapped in a 97 GEM so I don't drain my battery anymore. And have disconnected the plug under my hood to have a "live" axle type setup for now until a locker is installed and until I decide when to put a manual t-case in. (manual case in now) 4-29-11
33" tires
4.88 G2 Gears
Swapped in different hvac controls.

Sony Headunit
Boss 1200W Class D Mono Amp
Pioneer 12" 1200W Sub for a little bass

I plan to have it a little more off-road capable nothing extreme just enough to be able to tackle some descent trails and be a descent truck on the highway.

Here she is. :)

Well today 3/9/10 is a really nice day so decided to finally remove that bumper valance so it looks better and gives a better approach.

3/25/10 Decided to lift it a little.

I finally had enough of the blue bezel and only did that temporarily and never replaced or repainted and its not a ricer so I decided I wanted black again (for now) so went to the junk yard and got a 99XL bezel so that the 4wd panel matched what it actually is now 6/4/10

Something newish....

Well yesterday I found this in the transfer case,

And then I drained it today and found this,
tcasefluid2.jpg

So out came the 4405 and in went an M1354, :) but a storm all a sudden hit so have one bolt to tighten up, rear driveshaft to hook up, fill with fluid and and put skid plate back on and then mess with the linkage and we'll call it good for a short time :D

Oh and had a little helper:

Lol Lynch, she tries to help she may end up being a smart girl in E-school :p:

Well finished the swap for the most part today but ran into something I didn't expect. The driveshaft for the 4405 was half inch short, measured the shaft on the E1354 on the 94 Ex and was half inch longer, so I "borrowed" its driveshaft til I get to the JY for one. And tore the full length console out, I don't need it, going to put the shorty back in the truck that originally came with it so I can have the shifter in the stock spot and build something to house the CB and some toggle switches for future lighting and whatnot. But what a good feeling of having 4low in it and not slip :D Wasn't sure on the filling up the case so I bought an oiler can from Kmart to pump tranny fluid in the case.

94 on top, 96 on the bottom.

Did you pull on the stock drive shaft to see if it would extend anymore? They do compress & expand some.

I was able to use the stock shaft with the M1354 in the 95 just fine. Yours is the same as mine, so I don't get it.

Hmm....Gregg....I tried to pull but didn't pull too hard, didn't know that they actually extended any. I'll have to go outside and pull hard this time and see if it'll extend....I'm gunna **** if I did that for nothing :p:

You are correct Gregg....:thumbdwn: <---did that for nothing :( lol That's cool though, you saved me from scrapping it :D

Got the shifter installed, don't have it setup like the regular setup, I can pull it straight back instead of puling back, over and back for low. The case works great. Have some touching up to do appearance wise but not mechanical wise.

keep up the good work glen

No I don't. Not yet anyway....

Took a ride through the mountains and got on one heck of a road, glad I had this ex and not my stock one or wouldn't have made it, but took a poser pic and some at a couple bare spots where we could see everything.

Awesome pic's mate!!!!!

It was nice out today, so I swapped in a shorty console, mounted the ashtray/power outlet and mounted the CB (was sitting awhile so it looks dirty atm) :) Getting prepped for AFN

Well I'm prepping for the Ford Nationals Show and since I rarely open the full hatch I discovered something unpleasant and will have to have body work sometime this year or early next year. But didn't realize the dirt that collected under the hatch holy crap was it filthy.

And removed the rust marks on the back window with some turtle wax cleaner type ordeal.

Still not complete but got dark. Exterior is tomorrow.

The nasty rag after cleaning the door seems and everywhere.

It will be dirty again in a few weeks, not a show truck by all means but figured I would put some work into it for the show at least.

Well, it is almost 16 years old now. Being in your part of the country sure dont help matters with rust. Stuff happens.

At least your taking care of it, I see so many on the road with simple fixes that should be done, it's sad.
