Got a Question

Ok so I bought a 96 xlt that had the tape deck no cd or cd changer but had the premium wiring connectors so i got the harnes adapter and I hooked everything up properly except i didnt hookup the black amp ground wire and have done no other mods I get sound from all the speakers even sounds like the amp is turning on but I get really loud highs any suggestions?

Oh and i do have the rear controls

Plus while i was installing i left the remote wire unhooked and got no sound then connected it and boom had sound? so why is the amp functioning without a ground?
