I had a roll over and now that's I have everything fixed up and running again I have this grinding noise when I turn the wheels from left to right when im stopped abd a slight vibration can be felt also. Has anyone had a similer problem like this on a 1998 xlt? I do have a extra rack and pinion but I know its a pain in the butt to change.... It is 4wd and I think it needs a alignment also because it pulls to the right now. Anybody have any suggestions?

Just to be sure, grinding, or mechanical whirring/groaning sound?

It is a groaning noise to be more specific

It sounds kinda like the power steering fluid is low but its not low. And it sounds worse then it would if it were low on fluid. Any suggestions?

Take your serpentine belt off and check for front to back play in the pulley. Is your power steering pump leaking? What is the condition of the fluid?

The fluid was a bit full awhile back so I took some out and has been level ever since. The truck was well maintained and the fluid is clean. it feels like its the rack because I can feel a shake in the steering wheel when turning it left to right. I dont have any leaks what so ever. Do you think if I took it in for a alignment that would clear the problem up? It did land back on its wheels when it rolled so that may have jerked something or messed up the rack totally but im not to sure?

I couldn't really tell you more without a visual inspection.
