Can't find any info on this and yet, I know some guys have done it.

I'm talking about installing a hand throttle "device" on the shifter of a manual tranny Explorer. "Device" that will help me control both, brake and throttle while on an incline off-road... a very usufull "device".

Give me suggestions, please.
Rick? I know you've got one of these...

Doug has one. I didn't know you could use one on a manual...or just hadn't figured out how it would work....i'm curious now!

Doug modified a Schwinn bike shifter.. I wish I knew how he did it but unfortunately I never asked him..

Easy, it's just a bicycle shifter handle and cable. One end attaches to the throttle linkage and the other attaches to your 5 speed shifter handle. The ratchet action of the shifter lets you click it to any position and it will stay there.

It's a must have for any 5 speed rockcrawler :D

that easy huh? I need to stop by a bike shop tomorrow and see what they've got...

thanks!

BTW - where did you attach the cable? throttle?

I'm curious about the difficulty of driving with the hand throttle? Is it really easier than using the floor throttle (offroad), with a 5-speed? I'm really curious!

it's a must have off-road... otherwise it would be sort of difficult to operate clutch, brake and accelerator with only two legs...

:D

You can take and set the throttle at a set RPM level with the shifter b/c there are small notches in the shift mechanism, holding the throttle cable at that specific RPM level. Therefore you can work the brake and clutch with your feet.

aaaahhhhhh i see now :D

DerrickC. did a nice write up with pics a while back and even showed where/how to hook up to the throttle body. Link

I saw that...after I asked my questions and figured how it works out. On page 3 kurt posted a pic of someone using a ballchain at the end to prevent binding...good idea?
