Need Info on a 1998 explorer 4.0 SOC Engine code E
Having problem hard starting. some times it starts fine and other times it cranks over but won't start. I have installed a new fuel pump but still have the same problem. This is an intermitt problem so it is hard to chase.
auto has 128,000 miles on it. Could a mass air flow sensor be the problem the thing runs fine with no driving issues after it starts

MAF sensor should just throw a code and maybe a high idle shouldnt cause starting problems. i dont remember if the sec gen's had distributors or coil packs but if it has a distributor check the contacts for corrosion

hard starting

Hey redwood .
I have a 94 ex limited with a 4.0 ohv . I am having this same problem .
Had the starter checked ,was ok . Changed both battery cables
(they needed it , they were shot . Was ok for a while . now it acts like
Its either not getting fuel or spark .
When I am able to get it started , It runs perfect .
Iam going to change the fuel pressure regulater and ignition coil to
see if this changes any thing . I was told the fuel regulator can cause hard starting
The end of this month I am going to pull the top end off my ex and redo it.
Its a ***** to get my ex started But like I said , Once my ex starts , you cant stop it . Let you Know what I find out this week end .

Joey

I got a P0320 code ,Changed the Crankshaft sensor,Now it Starts fine but once it warms up keeps stalling out ,no power ,going to change plugs ,wires, camshaft sensor and coil pack this week end.
