My father has a 97 explorer with the base stereo. I want to get him a factory cd player for christmas. I have found a 98 single disk and an 01 6 disk player. Will either of these fit in his 97?

I believe that the 98 should go right in as long as the 98 is also a base radio. The 01 if its from a 2-door sport model, if from a 4 door no.

However i would look into an aftermarket. a 11 year old radio can really go at any time.

Thanks for the info
I know the two new ones look the same as what he has except for the CD slot.

My dad likes the factory look so thats the only reason im looking for a used factory unit.

Thanks

I tought the 6 disk indash started on 02...
What you need to check is:
1- mounting, some have the 2 holes on each side for the removal tool, some have 2 tabs on the bottom for screws, and the newwer ones have 2 tabs on each side for screws
2- harness type, just compare the back of the HU's and get one that has the same conections, else you'd need to either buy or create your own adapter.
2nd, 3rd and 4th gens are the same size BTW

Yeah I would prefer to be able to do the comparisons and if could. However I am trying to this without pulling his radio as its going to be a christmas present.

You can pull it in seconds, take a pic with your cell phone, then go to the JY and compare it
