I'm going to need to remove the head unit from my X this weekend. Where can I rent (buy?) the tool to remove the unit from the dash? How much are they usually? Is there anything extra I should be aware of when removing the head unit?

Thanks!

It can be purchased from most autoparts stores. Look to pay anywhere from $4 to $10. Put the U shaped tools into the left and right holes, push them in about an inch after first resistance, pull the U's away from the radio (you'll feel the radio's clamps release), and pull the U's out with the radio attached. Disconnect wires.

It's very easy, actually.

Wal Mart, eh? Thanks! I'll go check it out tomorrow.

wow a couple bucks at walmart? man with as many stereos as ive stolen... i mean taken out, i should of bought one... but autozone wanted like $14 last time i checked

or you could just cut up a crappy metal coat hanger and make two "U" shaped pullers... I cant tell you how many hangers I've cut up lol..

real ones work a bit better though, just a little fyi if you cant find any.

I got one from NAPA auto parts...for my mazda (same tool needed) for $8. Made sure not to rip the packaging and then waited about a week and took it back and said I didn't use it. If you could call that renting
