Headlight Switch that "doesnt exsist"

My truck is a '94 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4. It came with auto headlights & auto dimming mirror. The controls are on the mirror. My headlight switch went out so I went to the parts stores to buy a replacement. The problem is the only one all the stores carry has 9 pins and is 1 plug, mine has 10 pins and 2 plugs. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do or where I can find the correct replacement for my truck?

If there is a pick and pull near you, that's a good option. Cheap, too. Limiteds are sure to have the auto headlights. Mine is an XLT, and it has it. I think the switch may be different, if I remember right (something about a "premium option"), and a Ford dealer can probably still get it for you, if all else fails. Since it's only a switch, it shouldn't be too much.

It is a discontinued part through ford, although the dealership was able to provide me with a part number, it cant be found. i did how ever add the "relay upgrade" and so far it has been working fine, i guess the switch allows enough power to fire a relay but not enough to power the headlight.s

Thanks, don. I now know that I must collect these as I find them! I also tend to look for easily breakable trim pieces in the right colors, too.

Bump the old thread! I ran into this issue today in the 93 limited. The plug for the headlight switch melted. I can not find a new one and the used ones are so brittle.

I think I spoke too soon. I believe they are the same plug, just pinned different. The headlight switch pin differences are what they are talking about in this thread.


Edit: All the sites I looked at, said the headlight switch plug does not work on explorers with the power rear view mirror option. It indeed worked well in my limited explorer.
