Hearing fuel spray but no pressure on fuel rail

I replaced the coil pack I had. The coil pack connector reads 11.5v. I tested the crankshaft position sensor connector and got the recommended 1.5v. I'm searching for a way to test the sensor without having a helper crank the engine.

Not much done today. I'm waiting on rockauto for a new ckp, plugs, and plug wires.

I did try to start it with starting fluid. For the first time since I got it, it started up. 😮

That rules out the ignition.

Now I'm stumped. 😐 We know the explorer has gas at the rail. I tried cranking with the MAF sensor and TPS sensor disconnected. There are 2 more sensors on the intake manifold. I'm not sure what those are. What does that leave, the regulator and injectors? I read some about clogged vacuum lines. I'm not sure at the moment.

I'm stumped too. It running on starting fluid rules out the crank sensor. The fuel pressure is good. The 91 has a maf and map sensor. I'm thinking ecm or injectors at this point but my hunch doesn't mean anything.

I really appreciate your help. I'll take all I can get lol.

I'll ohm out the injectors with the multi-meter next. At least we can narrow down the problem.

Test for power at the injector connectors while cranking the engine. Meter or test light works.

What gets me is, the ignition control module sees the crankshaft sensor signal but the ecm does not. The check engine light works but doesn't illuminate while cranking the engine.

Could you be misremembering? I read this in the other thread and it confused me for a bit.

6. Does "CHECK ENGINE" illuminate while engine cranks?
Yes: Check crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
One way to check the CKP sensor is to determine if the fuel pump runs when the starter is cranking. This can be done simply by listening to the pump.
No: Go to next numbered step

After covid, I'll forget what I'm saying mid sentence. I may have it backwards, not expressing my thoughts in words very well

I know whatcha mean. Anything that I'm not 110% focused on gets forgotten immediately.

#6 we ruled ok. Everything is good to the fuel injectors. If the ecm was firing the injectors the engine would run.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to look inside the ecm, check the capacitors.

High, or floored tps signal will turn injectors off. After testing tps, Try starting engine with pedal floored, then let off a bit while cranking if it coughs to life .

Yep. No cam sensor. It will need a new TPS. This one is badly corroded. I tested one out of my 94 once but that was before swapping coil packs. I should check that again before pulling the intake off lol.

Edit: I did check the fuel pressure regulator. The vacuum line was bone dry and no gas was in the throttle body.

I decided to check the TPS sensor again today while I'm waiting on the intake gasket to arrive. I found out the hard way that the 91 sensor and 94 sensor are different.😐

The 91 (the plastic was already snapped where the pins are)

At least they're cheapish on eBay.

As a bonus, I started deleting the old AC system. It was completely out of R12 and I won't be using it anyway.
