Heater Box and Long Time Coming!

Hi all..
I guess it's been a while since I have tried to sample this lists wisdom..
I have a 97 sport with 170K. I am trying to reach a decision.. To Keep or move on..
The drive train is in good working order.. I replaced the transfer case a year or so ago..
But the most irritating problem I have left is a "broken" heater box.. Mine lost it's blend door almost 2 years ago.. I cut a hole in the box and manipulate it manually a real PITA.
I have to do something with it..
Has anyone here done one themselves? Or do you know a place in the metro Denver are who would do one half way reasonable.. The dealer say's "well about $1300.
The truck is worth more to me than most anyone else given it's mileage.. But you have to reach a point where..
I have to do the rear Brakes and Emergency brake and a check engine lite but don't want to spend a whole lot more if I am going to move on..
Any help r experience will be most appreciated..
