Basically, disconnect the whole steering column, like this
Do not pull the steering wheel ( like the ford service manual says to)
remove seats and center console.
This gives you the room to remove the dash , you do not actually need to remove the dash from the truck, and with the seats out of the way you'll have room to slide the dash back far enough to access the heater core.
