Heater Not Working!!!

I have a 97 eddie bauer w 5.0 L , and the heater is not working properly. It blows out cold air even when the temp is set high, every once in a while it will just start working and blow out hot air, its like a flap opens and lets hot air come through. Ive checked all the vacuum hoses for cracks or kinks and they seem fine? Anybody else had this problem????

I have a '97 XLT w/5.0 and had the same problem. I did what you did and even changed the thermostat, but it turned out the dial was over-rotating past the hottest setting and going back to cool. I just rotate it fully and then back off a bit and everything is fine. Hope this helps.
