What does that mean exactly and do they need to be replaced? I have a new universal joint for it.
The driveshaft end yoke right? Do the weights come on it? I dnt mean to sound so dumb. Im actually pretty mechanically inclined but ive never ran across a driveshaft with weights on it. Could you possibly help me figure out which one to get while ive got the driveshaft out? I got 2 new universal joints to go on it too. But if i have to get a new yoke the i dont need to put the new front one on yet bcuz ill have to take it right back off. Thank you so much for your help this far though. I really appreciate it.
The slip yoke I used when swapping a M5OD-R1 in an Aerostar van had this weight on it. I used a yoke from a 3.8 mustang with a 4R70Wokay so I am online looking at 2004 explorer rear driveshafts and none of them show this weight, of course
However I am used to seeing this sucker on full size trucks like super duties and the like
Not sure why your 4.6 explorer has one.
Typically the weight is 6" or so away from the universal joint yoke. It appears that your weight may have slipped?
They are usually mounted with rubber melted in there, the rubber gets old and brittle and cracks
If it was my driveshaft I would likely just try to slip it off the end or cut it off and see if any vibrations ensue
Ill spend a few more minutes searching like 03 and 05 to see if we cannot replicate this shaft.
I just crushed a 05 explorer, but it was v6 and 4wf, it did not have this weight.
Usually full size trucks do, so I am used to seeing them on rear driveshafts of fords
Mine looks jst like that one. Another i dnt think i mentioned is the fact that i dnt have a front and rear drive shaft. Mine is jst one solid piece. Does that seem weird too like the weights??
Is there a part number on the shaft?
Ok guys Im needing a little more help on this. I replaced both of my universal joints and everything was good with my drive shaft for roughly a week. Then all of the sudden there was this awful clanging noise coming from underneath the beast and it wasnt pulling very well either. It kinda made the sound a metal pulley would make if u were hitting it against metal. I got under the car while it was running and it sounded like all the racket was coming from inside of my drive shaft. That being said im gonna say my drive shaft is shot. My question for you guys is do i have to put another drive shaft just like the odd ball one i had in there or is there another solid drive shaft like maybe the normal one everyone got but me on this year explorer? Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated because i need my car back on the road asap.
