Well I am no stranger to car forums but I am new to this Explorer Site.

My fiance has a 1998 Ford Explorer and it needs a transmission (has no reverse). So I plan on doing some research to decide which way to go with it.

Who knows. I may become a 4x4 junkie after all, considering my present car is a lowered Mini cooper S

Welcome to this forum! No reverse doesn't necessarily mean that you need a new transmission. There are many threads in the transmission section with this kind of problem. It could also be transfer case related.

I suggest you search the transmission forum regarding your issue, there may be an easy fix for the "no reverse" problem.
