hello need help with brakes

i am getting ready to change the front rotors on my grandparents 2005 explorer 4X4 and the guy at the parts store told me that i have to take the wheel barrings and everything off and re grease them when i go to put it together. I thought that all i would have to do is take the brake caliper off and then the rotor should come off with out much effort. Am i correct or is the guy at the parts store right or are we both wrong?

also there is a grinding sound when turning right sharply?

The guy at the parts store is an idiot. Just remove the caliper, the caliper mount, pull the old rotors off and put the new ones on. You don't have to do anything with the bearings, or grease or anything (the bearings are sealed anyway, you couldn't grease them if you wanted to).

and might i add just to make sure that the bearing surface is clean, where the bearing (hub) and rotor meet.

how old was he? 30years ago with rear wheel drive then yes you did, nowadays no, you only have to remove the caliper 2 bolts and the caliper bracket two larger bolts. That noise might be a wheel bearing which is a sealed unit.

The parts store guy has your '05 confused with a 1st generation (91-94). 1st generation Explorers DO require you to remove the bearings (as pictured below) in order to remove the Rotor.
