I have a 2007 Explorer. As I am driving my temperature gauge will shoot up really high and trigger the overheat light, and the rpms shoot up. It will make a loud blowing sound, as if an auxilary fan is blowing. As soon as I put the car in neutral, the light goes out and the temperature goes back to normal. What could be the cause of this?

You may have some air in the system. Try starting it up with the radiator cap off and let some coolant overflow once the system gets hot. Cap the radiator and fill the coolant reservoir back up and see what happens.
