Hey guys, I was replacing my passenger side CV joint and when I pulled it, the axle shaft started sliding out with it. I wound up pulling it and it won't budge, like it's fused to the cv somehow.

Am I totally screwed? Is there a trick to separate the CV from the shaft, or do I need all new parts? Seals? I found this thread that was similar: Passenger Front CV Axle Shaft

If possible try freezing it, wrap in plastic wrap to protect freezer, and give it a couple hours. This should shrink the shaft a bit.

then with the weight of the cv hanging off the stub axle in your hand, some whacks with a mallet. If you are replacing the cv axle don't be concerned about it. Force back and forth should work it loose.

Then, clean the splines with needles files.

I did manage to get it off with a rubber mallet. Funny that all my tugging and pulling on it did nothing, a few whacks with a hammer took it right off. It slid back in and the new CV went right on.

Thanks for helping me keep this thing on the road, 250k and counting :)
