This information was sent to me through a EB club. Please help us save this trail, even if you don't live in California. This is a sign of things to come for all of us. Just cut and paste the body, or write one of your own. Then send it to the email addresses at the bottom. Thanks in advance. Spread the word please.

Jon

All,

Please respond immediately! I just learned that the board of
supervisors are meeting to discuss/vote on the boxer bill which threatens the
Fordyce creek trail. Here's more info...
http://boardclerk.co.nevada.ca.us/meetings.htm#link1
<http://boardclerk.co.nevada.ca.us/meetings.htm#link1> . Attached is a
letter with email addresses that you can send it to. If we can get a
couple of hundred or a thousand emails sent really quickly this will go
a long way. Fordyce is an awesome trail that in many areas is much
more difficult than the Rubicon. This is leading the way to trail
closures both here and close to you!!!!!

Subject - Boxer's Wilderness Bill!!!!

Body -

I would like to take this moment to suggest to you to please consider
formally OPPOSING Senator Boxer's Wilderness Bill!

This bill would add 2.5 million acres to the existing 14 million+ acres
of Wilderness in California which is shutting out numerous outdoor
enthusiasts. Classifying land as "Wilderness" keeps out all but the
most-fit members of the society. The disabled, the elderly, and others will
never get to enjoy these lands again, since we rely on vehicles to access
anything more than a mile into the woods.

Many trails currently exist in the proposed Wilderness areas, in fact,
some of my favorite places. If this bill passes, I won't be able to use
my 4x4 to get to these places that I have been going to for the past
decade. By closing these public lands to large segments of the public,
Senator Boxer would rob many people of opportunities to enjoy nature,
historic mining relics, and scenic vistas. Able-bodied youngsters might
occasionally be able to backpack to see parts of the wilderness, but
nobody else. The impact of fire control and drug enforcement could be
devastating. Prohibiting motorized vehicle access severely limits
fire fighting and enforcement capabilities -- something that the Washington-based
Secretary of Interior has little concern for.

Let's keep public land in Nevada County open TO the public, not FROM
the public!

Regards,

Your name here

Here are the email addresses to send the email to. Hurry up!!!

Come on guys, it only takes a few minutes to help. We've got to stick together on these issues if we want to keep our local areas open to wheelin'.

Just sent my e-mail opposing the closure. Thanks for the heads up.

I just hope more people take a couple of minutes to defend our rights. There are 10,000 members you'd think we could at least find 100 hardcore willing to respond.

thanks for posting that. we really need to reacte to people/bills that are actively working against us, BUT we also need to be proactive in our daily driving habits and club activites. Not just being responsible but instilling resonsibilty in young wheelers (old too) by example and getting invoved (as well as organizing) trail cleanups and any other activities that are good and are perceived as being good. since so much of this is politcal we have to be political as well. even calling the local paper or news channel to announce a trail cleanup and raise awareness. This is something that the florida explorer club is trying to do. One things that we do at every ride is to take back more trash than we take in. At every stop we make on the trail for peeing or posing we try to pick up trash (particularily beer bottles.) thanks zenius for doing the leg work to get all that info up here, much appreciatted! sorry to be a thread hog but we cant expend enough energy on maintaining our rights to trail access.

edit: just sent another one with my work email
