Hello, I changed my coolant the last time and never had this issue. I drained the current fluid at the drain valve and about 2.5 gallons came out. I went to refill the tank to do a flush and barely any filled into it, so I started the car figuring it would suck some into the system and I can add more. It immediately started to trickle out, so I stopped the car. I figured it I would put the radiator cap back on to let it suck it in through, and then the car had issues starting. I finally got it to start and kept it on for a minute. I removed the cap and the same amount was there. So I figured I would will up the reservoir with water and if it needed some it would pull it from there. The car ran to normal temps and the heater was turned on. All that was blowing was cold air and the car was starting to move to the H on the temperature gauge, so I shut off the car. I turned it back on without heat and it was fine until the heat was turned on again.
My heater doesn't work and I don't know if the flush solution even made it through the system without the heat turning on. I have a few questions.
1. Is my thermostat shot since the heat doesn't work and the overheating issue? If not, what else could cause this problem?
2. Did the flush solution make it through the system? If not, do I have to fix the heater issue before the flush can go through?
3. Why would the car have had a hard time starting when I turned it off the first time? Is this a bigger problem that needs to be looked at?
Any help you can provide would be really appreciated as I would like to get this car running again and today if possible.
