I changed out my coolant temp sensor not too long ago and when I did this I changed my thermostat and now it's leaking quite a bit of coolant from that area. I took it off and noticed that the gasket just sits on top of the ring where the thermostat seals with the coolant neck. Is it supposed to be like that or is the gasket supposed to slip around the ring? This is 4.0L SOHC engine. Thanks.

the gasket should go around the ring, also, sorry for the stupid question, but could you have possibly put the tstat in upside down? It happens very very often lol.

Ok thanks, for some reason the gasket that came with the t-stat just sits on top of the ring. And it's definitely in the right way, it only fits the one way.

did you forget to put sealant on? thats what i did when i did mine hahaha

True! I never trust plastic housings as they distort so use a gaskit seal also- hermatite is good.

I put some sealant on but probably not enough. Also when I cleaned the water outlet on one side there was a bit of a nick out of it, not too big, but I wonder if that could be causing the leak? I hate coolant leaks! Arrrrgh!

They are the worse! show up under pressure and hide when you start up so hard to trace!
