i went off roading today and i hit a moderate to deep puddle. sucked up a bunch of water. soaked my k and N air filter. car wouldnt start. finally got it to start now it clicks when i run. sounds like the fan belt is clicking. i was told to take the spark plugs off and start it up and water will shoot out and to replace the spark plugs. much help is needed here. anything appreciated thanks!

and have you done that??

also, do a compression test when all the plugs are out.

sucking water into the engine could cause hydrolock which could bend a rod.

well taking all the plugs out now would be just a waste of time,, ,
you said it was already runnin g, so they are not an issue anymore,, i would guess if the noise is coming from the belt , it probably is the belt,, or maybe a dirty pulley , or something inside the belt, like mud , ,
if it continues wash the front of the engine,, see if it goes away .,

no chance for hydrolock if it is already running,,

after reading about hydrolocking i highly doubt that it did that cuz yes it is running. i went back to my car popped the hood turned it on and noticed the clicking is coming from either the starter box or the engine. when i accelerate the clicking follows with the accerlation and the change of gear changes the tone of the clicking. is it possible that it temporarly hyrdolocked? i talked to a freind who said he had the same thing happen. he said to take the spark plugs out and drain all the water and replace spark plugs and itll run like new again. it seems the more i read about my issue the more and more expensive its getting. but something to keep in mind is that looking back on the body of water it was no deeper then my hub caps but i did go through it at a decent speed. ahhhh im hating myself right now

Sounds like you got water in your oil. Check your oil and tranny fluid asap.

if it was in the engine it would have gotten into the oil pan ,
did you look at the dipstick and see if it is the right color,, ?? it should be gold or black, but if it is milky than water got in there,,

one other thing is , the belt is also affected by rpm, and when the engine changes gear the rpms and the belt both change speeds,,

ok well im definatly going to change my oil either way. and if water did get into the oil, i drove it about 5-7 miles home from the trail. is it possible that it did any damage to my engine now?

ok i just checked dip stick. and i have chocolate milk in there (bunches of muddy water). so after i change my oil whats my next step and is there any major damage that it could of caused?

make sure you change the filter too, and than run it for a bit and change it again, might have to do it a few times till the milk goes away ,

will do. this help is awesome you guys. about the clicking though. whats the cause of that? that couldnt be from the milky oil could it?

i wouldn't go on a long trip till the milky goes away , the clicking should go with the milky , right out the drain hole, just don't rev the engine too much , it might kill a bearing if you do, that means a motor job,,

corkey your a life saver right now. sorry to ask yet another question (sorry im a begginer to my car, but i gotta learn sometime right?) anyways how will i know if i kill a bearing? will my engine just stop working in general? my dads a off road nut when it comes to this stuff but hes half a world away at the moment so im SOL.

if you kill a bearing it will be very evident,, it will knock really bad and possibly seize up, or launch the connecting rod thru the side of the block maybe,,

the click could just be a lifter or rocker arm,

ok....am i looking at any major wallet busters? i kno if if the rod gets launched through the block then ill be in major trouble not only with the car but also with my wallet. correct?

if you take care of it with new oil , and kind of baby it for a bit it should be okay, just make sure you run it after the oil changes, and check the oil to make sure it doesn't have any nasty stuff in it anymore,,
once the nasty is gone it should be okay ,

It could be lifter noise causing the clicking. If water is in the oil I'd throw out a 90% chance thats your noise.

I'd run 1 qt of oil detergent/diesel after you drain your oil pan, replace plug, leave the filter in. Run the engine for 5 mins with additive in oil, turn off, drain. You could add 1 qt oil at a time, run engine a couple mins, drain repeat till oil drains out clean.

thank god. im gonna go sleep now seeing as ive been standing on pins and needles for the last 24 hours. hahahah

The biggest thing is DONT drive it ANYWHERE untill you fix this as it very well could cause a catostraphic failure.

i drained my oil and cleaned it fully but the clicking is still there! me and my dad have a feeling that i might of bent a valve or something along that nature. ahhhh. anyone have an ideas on my new problem now?
