97 explorer
I have a 97 explorer with the 4.0 sohc that has a rough idle and will stall while sitting still in park or reverse. It kind of pulses up and down between 500 and 800 rpms. We just put a brand new IAC valve on it. We are putting new plugs are wires on it this weekend hoping to fix since the old ones have at least 80k on them. The explorer has 180k miles on it.

Can anyone help please?

Assuming there're no codes present, I'd also clean the throttle body
where the throttle plate meets the TB housing. Then install the new
plugs and wires; hopefully that'll fix it......

I'm having a similar issue with my '97, minus the stalling. I'll be interested to read about your results!!
