Just want to clarify some information here. I'm looking at buying a '99 Sport 4x4 with a 5 speed. Definitely a 4.0 OHV (according to the VIN and visual inspection). The door sticker has a Trasn code of 'M'

According to this link:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239360

I get this:
Transmission Codes

Code .................. Model
D (1997-2005) ..... A5LDE / 5R44/55E
D (1992-1996)...... M5OD-R1
J ....................... M5OD-R1
J (2002-2003)...... R1HD / M5OD-R4
M (2000-2001)..... Mazda M5D4
M (1997-1999) .... M5OD-R2
M (1992-1996) .... M5OD-R1
R (2002) ............. 5R55W
T (1992-1995) ..... A4LD
T (1996-2001) ...... 4R55E
U ....................... 4R70W
V ....................... 5R55S
X ....................... 6R60

Now my understanding is that the M5OD-R2 was used in the F-150 and has a different bellhousing bolt pattern etc than the M5OD-R1.

This link:

says that the M5OD-R1 is the only manual transmission used in the Explorer (at least pre-2000).

The Mitchell On-demand repair info also states that it should be an M5OD-R1.

I'm planning on swapping this tranny into a 93 and want to make sure I'm not buying something that won;t be compatible. (I don;t want to swap the whole engine in since I just finished rebuilding the engine after hydrolocking it last year)

Can anyone (perhaps with a '99 Sport 4x4 manual) provide some additional insight?

If the main Transmission and Axle code page is wrong, perhaps we can get it updated and corrected?

No one has any idea?

My assumption is that they are both 4.0 ohv so the transmission should mate up no problem and the info on the trans and axle code page is incorrect

The R2 was not used in the Ranger/Explorer and will not bolt up to the 4.0 V6.
