What 10" sub is going to give me the best volume, bass, and sq combination? (no greater than $300). I know I'm not gonna rock the house but I just want really good quality sound inside the explorer. And if it ain't too much to ask, what amp would you power it with?

Jl,audiobahn,kicker,infinity,are a few.

mtx 9500 10" might be tough to find em for under 300 but i think i can do it for just a little bit more. i doubt you can find much else that competes with that one other than RE or DD

also, that will totally rock the house. should even outhit many two sub set-ups with middle range 10s and 12s if you give it 800 watts or so

ok... but what's the difference between a w3 and w6?

Expo knows more on this than I

I used to have a 10W3 in my old sport on a kicker amp and it sounded awesome

Thunder9500 vs. W7

"The importance of mechanical power handling is undeniable when it comes to subwoofers. Especially when one considers the output capability of today's high performance car amplifiers. A speaker may be able to handle 1000 watts thermally, but if it has a short voice coil and short excursion capability, it will not handle power well, mechanically speaking."
This quote is taken word-for-word from JL Audio's web site. We agree, and in all measurable areas, MTX Audio's new Thunder9500 Subwoofer smokes JL's W7!

yeah they are biased, but numbers are numbers.

sure beats a w3...

wow with a 10" expo? I'm intrigued! seriously!!!

Ok expo not sure what all that means:eek: but I see the prices.... w7 definitely out of question... mtx9500 may also be out of reach ($499).... working two eight hour shifts to try and raise this money I need but don't know how long I could hold up!

w3 handles less power less cleanly than a w6. the w3 won't sound as clean as the w6 with the same amp, and if you can afford to send more rms than the w3 can handle it will play much louder while retaining the better sound quality.

the mtx 8000 is more comperable to the jl's you are talking about. You could run one of those 10s with a proper amp for a total of about 500 in a custom box (which is really important)

the 9500 is gonna run you between 600-900 to run in the same manner.

another great option is the Resonant Engineering line which you can find at respl.com

or a kicker L5 or even an L7 could be run in your price range.

i strongly feel though that mtx is the best for the money

thank you expo and 88... I really appreciate your help. I'll be sure to let you know what I end up doing.

Brahma 10 (right at about $300, and maybe a little more with shipping)

Expo said having a custom box is important.... What about one of those stealthboxes??

very unlikely- its gonna cost you at least 300 for a box to hold a 9500 10 in the side compartment and it would still stick out a little.

if it has to fit in there your gonna need something a little smaller. even the 9500 10" weighs around 50 lbs.

btw- my 9500 15s are in the mail along with another 8012 svr battery (to add to my 8012 in the rear already and my red top for starting) and a kicker 1501 amp. absolutely cannot wait to start kicking jl butt

Geeze, seems like I'm gonna be very limited in what I can put in there.... will I be able to get anything that soundds good in one of those stealths?

better off making a mdf/fiberglass box to fit in there

and fitting something better, those stealth boxes are pretty pricey anyways

Try an Elemental Designs E10O and a q-logic steath style box from sounddomain.

Q-Logic 10" Enclosure

Elemental Designs E10O

Expo5.0 have you even heard the MTX9500? Dont buy into the marketing hype, man.

As for the stealth box being pricey?!? $179.00. Try getting a f-glass box built in the same location for less.
