So I posted awhile back that I was able to procure the rims from Saleen XP8 Ford Explorer 00-0023 Facebook

I've learned that these rims are pretty rare - only 60 sets made. They are the aluminum Saleen (Speedline 1908 Magnesium) style wheels

Saleen "Magnesium-Style"

Saleen also produced their own version of the Magnesium wheel. Note that this wheel has "SALEEN" cast into the lip next to the valvestem, and was produced in alloy instead of Magnesium. It does not say "Speedline" or "Magnesium" anywhere on the wheel. This wheel was available in a plated version.
So one of the followers on Big White's facebook page graciously did up a few photoshop images of the various colors that Saleen used on these wheels for both the Saleen XP8 Ford Explorer and the Saleen Mustangs. Gold, White and gray/silver

My current rims are the Saleen Speedline 1908 Magnesium rims that are powdercoated. These rims I'm told were the ones originally installed on Saleen XP8 98-0022 Facebook

They are coming due for a refresh so I am going to have my new rims powdercoated and installed while my current rims are away. Originally I was thinking to go with the same Pearl White as my truck but now I've seen these images I'm wondering if I should go with Gold?

What would you choose - I've put up a poll - please cast your vote at the top of this post.

Either white or gold. Both look good, just totally different looks. I'm leaning towards the white on white though.

I agree that all three look good. But I like some more contrast, I'd prefer the gold most of the time.

I would go natural aluminum, blast the paint off, and then keep them shiny with a vinegar solution................easy maintenance.

If you blast them they will no longer be shiny though.

White wheel will turn out looking better than other colors, because white hides blemishes.

In your experience if I went with bronze or Spanish gold how would the blemishes do? I’ve got the pearl white samples coming so we’ll see how those look in comparison to the paint.

I painted my Jeep GC wheels with graphite..... that would look good on your Explorer IMO (your top pic looks pretty close to it).... very close to gun metal grey /\

Oh, and black out your door handles and emblems 👍

I'm not usually a fan of gold rims, but they sure look good on your white truck!

I like the white rims too, but I'd imagine they'll show brake dust like none other.

Why gold ones did you like best?

Mainly because it's unique. You can't go wrong with silver or grey, but lots of folks already have wheels like that. At the risk of sounding silly, I'd say the gold rims make the truck look more distinguished.

After looking closer at the pictures, I also really like how the gold wheels tie in the gold Limited, V8, and Explorer emblems. Again, gold doesn't usually suit my taste, but it makes a nice accent color against the pearl white.

Just realized that probably sounds odd coming from someone who's owned two gold second gens...maybe I do like gold? 🤔

Out of these - which of the golds do you prefer?

So I'm having a hard time understanding the Gold that Saleen used on the XP8 Ford Explorers. In every photo it looks different and I am starting to think that some of these trucks have different versions of gold - maybe they are not the same color

The folks over at SCOA say the Saleen gold is called Spanish Gold. Three trucks here and appears to be three different versions of Gold

I like the bolder gold in the mockup pictures, but some of those Saleen rims look very yellowish to me -- not a fan of the yellowish gold, personally.

What does the shade of gold on the emblems look like? Is that a color you'd consider for the rims?

Ultimately it's your truck though! Do you want the wheels to be a bold statement, gold Saleen replicas, or just whatever color suits your taste?

Hi. Both sets of rims that I have are genuine. Ones installed now are Speedline Magnesium Wheels and the set I’m going to have colored are the Saleen Aluminum Magnesium Style wheels that are very rare - only 60 sets were made.

So looking at all of the XP8 trucks that came with gold wheels it seems that the gold on those trucks seems to differ from truck to truck. The folks at the Saleen Club say that Saleen used aztec gold as the gold color on the rims they put on the Mustang and Explorer during that era.

On my 2000 limited, the bumper step pad and all of the emblems are medium prairie tan metallic (the step pad is not metallic)

I’m not real crazy about the yellow looking wheels on the red truck. The chestnut truck seems to have more bronze colored wheels and the green one seems to have the Spanish gold colored wheels. I do like the idea of having some sort of gold looking color but I want it to flow correctly with the pearl white and I also have red calipers.
