Maybe just gravity shifting the car downhill against the parking pawl?

If you set the parking brake, does it still make the noise?

nah, its definitely not the parking pin.

it slams hard, more of a slamming than a noise.. you can feel it a ton, the first time it happened i thought someone slammed into me.

i think my motor mounts might be gone, but thats just a thought. could that be a cause? my motor drops down cause the mounts are bad?

Possibly, never though about that before. Take a look and some pictures so we can see too.

Every time you park it??? Doubtful...

Motor mounts would let the motor flop around... every time you get on or off the gas, it would torque the motor around...

Check to see where your roommates are when this happens... ;)

forgot to mention this happened once right after my friend and i put it on ramps to do the fuel filter.

i wasnt under the truck, and he said the whole motor and tranny slid back about an inch and a half...

i heard it

What type of remote start do you have?

python why?

I was reading about other remote start systems (don't know which ones, they don't mention names) that cause random engine thumps. Sometimes when they are parked, or waiting at a light or in neutral. Most say the problem started at least a year after they got it installed... it's some type of conflict with the factory alarm system - they say.

all the symptoms seem to be there, its just what part of the alarm system can cause a thump? and i dont even have an alarm sytem unless its anti-theft that comes stock on the xls

also, this happens when my car is off

They say it conflicts with certain factory alarms or anti-theft (I'm guessing PATS in your case). One is trying to bypass the other - I can't explain it, but this might be it.

cool i couldnt figure it out for the life of me... i just dont know what could be "thumping" in there... but whatever, run what you brung...

I'd research your specific model # I'd like to know what the thump is too.

It sounds like a bad mount to me. There should be very little front and back movement of the motor/trans.
