I just upgraded the HU in my '98 sport, to a Pioneer DEH-P3600, a basic CD player nothing too fancy, I have stock speakers for now, I want to get a sub and an amp soon, what would be some options for me to look into?? I only wanna spend about 300; 400 max! Any suggestions would be great. Don't want the best just something pretty good.

Thanks
Justin

any sites where i could learn more too?

MTX for your amp and rockfords for your subs.I bought two ten inch rockford HE2's in a Q-logic enclosure with a 4 year warrenty for 175 from best buy, then I went over to ultimate electronics and bought a MTX 401 mono amp for 190.It sounded great in my ex.The only difference is I had a alpine HU

Them are good budget subs but the box sucks.

So what sucks about the box??? and I thought Rockford Fosgate was a good brand?? I am really new at this trying to learn some stuff before i buy anything....

A bandpass box will sound like crap in your ex:(

then what would be the optimal kind to get?

Sealed or ported. What kind of music do you listen too?

why will a band pass box sound like crap???

it may not be the BEST..but it will have the quality of most any pre fab boxs..i have used the q logic boxs from best buy and the band pass boxs with the same He2 12s and aside from the band pass being louder it really sounded the same..the notes hit the same just it was louder

just my .02

My banpass with two JL W3's sounded like total crap and the subs were in a 250 dollar JL box.I took the subs and out them in a ported boix and it was like night and day.

i have a bandpass in my truck, sounds great, bandpass keeps the sounds in the truck where as sealed will project the sound out, both work well inside the large space we have with the explorer, long as u have a good box and alright subs, with a bandpass will sound good, place u might want to check for amps is

www.discountjungle.net found some pretty good deals there

good luck, and yes u don't have to spend 1000.00 on a sound system for it to sound good.

ok the w3s sounded like crap in that box ill agree with u there

but i am telling u my personal expierince and thanks to my friend and his shisty ways i have delt with alot of different subs and box combos and the he2 12s in the band pass sounded fine..not that the he2s sounded all that good in the first place

they have about the same SQ as my subs

dont know if your interested prolly not, but i have a Sub/Box for sale. Its a Pioneer TS-W34C 12" sub, and a Probend Band pass box..... its on ebay right now, IM me at RiceKillerz to talk..... or post back here

what?

bandpass boxes sound great in SUV's

they sound like crap when they are in cars

So what kinda amp should I be looking for to power it? Would i want just a single channel, how much wattage?
justin

You cant go wrong with either MTX or Fosgate for your amplifiers. If your looking to spend as little as possible i would look for a reputable dealer on ebay. I just bought a factory refurb Fosgate Punch 160.2 (2002 model), WITH a 90 day warranty for $50!! Its basically a Punch 80 (in old school Fosgate-speak). Back in my younger days I drove 2 10" JL Audio 10w1's with a Punch 40 (half the wattage) and hit 138.7db's. Not bad for a "supposed" 40 watt amp. MTX and older Fosgate amps are underrated. Meaning they advertise their amps put out LESS power then they actually do. The birthsheets on my Punch 200a4 said it put out 486watts RMS, and my 160.2 put out 376 watts RMS. Too bad Fosgate has jumped on this crazy bandwagon of advertising their amps based on peak power. :(

Re:

Ok, I was In your situation about 2-3 Months ago...heres what you need to do. Get ONE Sub. Your not going to need a lot. Get one 500RMS subwoofer, Rockford Fosgate, MTX, Audiobahn...there all great, It help to find a dual-voice coil sub, That will give you the ability to buy a less powerful amp. Find A Sub that meets your budget.
Then you need to find an amp with the same Power ratings, or maybe one with a little less, so you dont overpower your sub. Again, RF, MTX, And Audiobahn are your bestbets. Buy Ebay, It will cost you way less and with your savings you can get it professionally installed. You dont need to be doing it yourself, seeing how you dont know what your doing.
Oh and BTW...nice choice on HU, i got the same thing. Too bad you cant amp your rear speakers without a lot of ghetto wiring.

Re:

...And dont get a bandpass.... Sealed boxes sound better and Ported(vented) Are louder. Decide what you would rather have and get that. They are pretty expensive(50+ easy) so do some smart shopping.
