Ok I think I screwed up big time on this one. I decided to install a trans-go shift and update kit in my AL4D in my 94 Navajo. I followed the instructions and now I lost lock up in third and I now have no 4th gear. Everything else seems to be fine otherwise. Also the transmission worked fine until I decided to do this the reason I did this kit is because I have been using the vehicle for towing and wanted to make sure the transmission was serviced.

The instructions say to tighten the VB bolts to 90 in lbs but around the solenoids only 75 in lbs to avoid bending of the VB and no 4th gear. I am worried that I may have ruined the VB some how and need to start looking for a entire VB replacement. Any suggestions on what I may have done, or what I can do now?

3-4 shift and TCC lockup are both electronically controlled. While it's possible you damaged the valve body, my gut instinct would suggest an electrical problem. Did you get all the electrical connectors back in place? Remember cutting any wires to the solenoids? If you don't see anything obvious, I'd start by checking the electrical integrity of those two circuits. I've posted instructions for this. Get a wiring diagram and run a quick search and see if you can find it.

Thanks MrShorty I will check the elect.

i agree sounds like maybe the tcc or 3-4 solinoid are unplugged or have a broken wire

Update, actually I do have lock up on the torque converter after about 45MPH, (is that normal?) Just no 4th gear I ordered a A4LD manuel so hopefully I can figure it out when I get that. With gas prices I need my 4th gear back lol Thanks

if you have lock up then you should have 4th gear correct me if im wrong but isnt the a4ld a 3spd overdrive tranny? its been a few years since ive been into one or even messed with one so i could be wrong if im right then you need a rebuild my b2 did the same thing

possible 3-4 shift solenoid problem. The solenoid screen might be plugged if the electrical to it is ok.

The fact that the TCC lockup is working means that the connectors are plugged in and power is getting to the transmission solenoids. The TCC lockup solenoid and the 3-4 shift solenoid share the same power supply. It also means that, if it is able, the computer would choose to shift into 4th gear. So, the question I would be asking is, "Can the computer actuate the 3-4 shift solenoid?" Basic test for this is:
1) Get a wiring diagram so you know which wires to probe.
2) Hook up DVOM to measure voltage drop across 3-4 shift solenoid.
3) Enter EEC-IV output state test.
4) Each press of the accelerator should cause the computer to change the state of the solenoid. You will see this on the DVOM as a switch from 12 V to 0 V.
