Help polishing Rims

I have an 06 Eddie Bauer with what i believe are painted alloy rims. How do i know for sure what kind of rim they actually are? I know it's probably a stupid questions but I am pretty stupid when it comes to cars.
What can I use to shine and polish them? I looked at Meguiar's Hot Rims but it says to not use them on painted rims.

Basically i need to know how to tell if my rims are painted and I need to know how to tell if they are alloy or aluminum.

Thanks in advance for your help with these stupid questions.

Do they have a Silver color to them or are they chrome looking?

They have a silver color to them.

What could i use to polish them? I currently have Meg Gold Class and NXT2.0 paste wax. Would either of those be ok?

Any wheel cleaner designed to be used on alloy wheels should work. The hard part will be getting into the small openings of the rim to make sure they get a good polish.

You know the Mother's Powerballs? Well I just saw advertised on TV they have a cone shaped one now that is good for getting into the hard to reach places.
