I just changed the engine in my '94 Ranger 4wd 4.0L with a 4.0 from a '95 Ranger and it seems like the torque converter is too long, when I tighten the tranny bolts, I can't turn the crank, however if I loosen the tranny bolts the engine turns fine. Is there a difference in the two years? I know the 94 has a A4LD tranny and the 95 has a 4R55E. Anyone ever have this problem?

different trannys would probably use different TQs. Do you have the other one?

I moved your thread to the Transmission forum. Rangers and Explorers both used the A4LD and 4R55E, so someone may know if there's a difference between the TQs.

Did the Torque convertor slide out, off the input shaft of the transmission? When you bolt the transmission up to the block, you could be binding in the transmission, and causing your engine not to be able to turn over.
