Hi, new guy here with engine light ?

I'm really not much of a car guy so I guess this is a dumb question, but my 2002 sport trac is right at the 30,000 mile point on the odometer and the light has come on. I got the oil change and the only thing I didn't get was a fuel filter tough I did ask for one. the light was turned off and stayed off for about a week. now it's on again.

so, is the check engine light and the service engine soon the same light?

I don't know.

ok, I read some of the posts around here .. this seems to be a great board by the way.. and took my truck to Autozone where they checked it for free! and said it's the EGR valve. Looks like I can take care of that myself .

Did they tell you what the OBDII code was cause Autozone doesn't know their own a$$ from a hole in the ground when it comes to diagnosing OBDII codes.

yeah, they said the code was P0401.
something to do with the exhaust I think.
I haven't fixed it yet .
