I have a 05 Explorer with the 17" wheel option. It has the standard class 2 hitch -1.25" x 1.25" .
I need a ball mount with a drop of 7.75" to tow my popup camper.
Can anyone tell me wher I can get a ball mount with that much drop.
I can find the 2" mount but not the 1.25" mount with tat much of drop

I don't think you will find a hitch with the smaller reciever in a 7 inch drop. It is possible to fabricate one, but that much drop may diminish the tongue weight rating. This is probably not an issue for a pop-up.

It may be a better idea to upgrade the hitch itself to a 2 inch. It is relatively easy to do and longer drop sizes (or adjustable drop) are easier to find. Depending on the model of pop-up, you could also look at going to a larger tire size to raise the tongue.

do what 2fishes said, don't waste time on that kiddy hitch

The only problem with changing to a class 3 hitch is my warranty.
It was a Ford certified used Explorer and I got the extended warranty for 3 years which expires in 2011. If the drivetrain has a problem they will say it was caused by towing too much weight. It dosn't have the lower gears .
I found a 6" drop mount that will work. It isn't level but not off that much
Thank guys

where did you find the 6" drop mount I need one too!

Hitch Mount

John:

I ordered the 6" drop mount from PPL Motor Home Parts
The website is www.pplmotorhomes.com
This mount isn't listed on the website, but is available from their catalog
The phone number is 1-800-755-4775
The part number is 98-1074.
The description is 7" length, 6" drop, 4.75" rise

I can't see how a 2" hitch will void warranty  My suzuki has a 1.25" hitch, but it can quickly overwhelm its tow rating with that hitch. Just because the hitch is capable doesn't mean the user will load it to beyond the vehicles capacity. What hitch size you have isn't relevant to what's being towed.
