Hey everyone, Today I was trying to decide what to do to my truck, and decided to do something with the MAS. So, I went outside and started thinking, and ended up making a new one out of 3" PVC. I took a 6" long piece of 3" PVC pipe, and drilled the top to stick the mass sensor through. But, I needed something that was flat to mount the sensor on, but it needed to have a round curve on the bottom so it would mesh up with the top of the PVC. I ended up cutting up 2 hockey pucks, so one side would be curved and fit perfectly on the pvc, and the other side would be flat to mount the sensor onto. I put the two cut up hockey pucks next to each other on top of the hole in the PVC, and duck taped them down (I couldn't think of anything else, and it was soo handy), then I drilled a hole through the pucks so the MASS would stick down through the hole in the PVC. Then I drilled 2 holes to mount the sensor, and mounted it on top with the 2 factory torx screws. I took another hockey puck, and cut it in about a 1/3rd and stuck it in the pipe, because the truck would just die on me when I turned it on before putting the puck in it. I think their may have been TOO much air going into it. But after all that and resetting the sensor I started it up and it stayed on. So I took it for about a 20 minute drive and damn, It made a big difference, and the truck still runs great. Just thought Id let everyone know that you can make your own mass. Its got about the equivelence of a 70mm mass. Ill get some pics up if anyone wants to see it.
later,
Andy

Thanks dman. Also, it only took about 2.5 hours to design and make. Can't beat that.

so it wouldn't run right without the hockey puck inside the tube?

The first time I put it on the truck ,the truck wanted to die,and it would only stay running if i constantly had my foot on the gas. So, I figured that maybe too much air was coming into the sensor or something. But after I put the hockey puck piece inside the tube, it works awesome. Its just gotta have something that takes up a little space inside the tube. I think the inside of the tube is 78mm, so that is allot bigger than the stock 55mm mass, and I am using the same sensor so maybe the sensor just didnt like all that air.

Hopefully you don't either run too rich and burn your cat and O2, or run too lean and blow your motor :(

Yea I am failing to see much benifit from this. Good luck with it though...

I see quite a bit of benefits from this. My gas mileage seems to have increased a bit, and its got a lot more get up and go. Now, when im driving and I stomp the pedal it really moves, unlike before. I just took it for a drive a couple of minutes ago and I can actually spin my tires for once; Iv never been able to do that before exept for around corners. I guess I'll see how it goes.

But there is a reason aftermarket MAS' require custom programming.....

I just hope you don't damage something.

How can I tell if im running too rich or too lean?

also, about the cats. How much do the cats actually help on the OHV? I have 150,000 on my cats, and Im not sure if they are even doing anything anymore.
Thanks,
Andy

I have a question. What is that intake tube you have there, and where did you get it?

Also, it appears you have a crankcase vent filter there instead of having it hooked to the intake, that's interesting.

Doing electronic mods without research :nono:

Without aftermarket gauges, you can't really tell until something goes wrong or you spew black smoke out your tailpipe (rich).

As for the cats, swap to a single hiflow cat from CarSound.

Air- Fuel ratio gauge?? That might tell you if you are too lean or rich.
