Well, i put this in my build thread but i figured i would also post it here in case anyone would like to build a snorkel without going through the fender.
In my case, i built tube-fenders for my truck and did not have the clearance to run a 3" pipe through the fender..

i started with the factory air box and sealed off every hole in it useing a few beer bottle caps and some flat plastic. I sealed is all with Ultra-Black.

Next i cut a 3" hole in the back side of the lower filter housing and attached and sealed a "autozone" mass air flow adapter.

I had a remove the coolant/windshield washer jugs for fitment..
in order to use the factory coolant/ washer jugs, i had to remove the factory bolt mounts on the jugs(i used a grinder and shaved off all the molded plastic mounts.) Then i rotated the jug assembly by 90 Degrees and it fit perfect!

For tubeing i used old ford diesel intercooler tubes, i cut what bends and straights i needed out of them and tacked it all togather. when it all fit perfect, i used the TIG and welded it all out. The boots and clamps are also from Ford diesel intercooler pipes..

in order to run the snorkel under the hood and exit the hood. i had to take a
3"x5" strip out of the corner of the hood to clear the pipe where it runs through. then i used some "U" style rubber door seal and sealed it to the cut part of the hood.
Still havent decided on what type of top cone to use for the air intake part of the snorkel.. i might just use another 90 degree bend and face it foward.

I posted this because its something diffrent and might be useful if you cant do a through-fender snorkel!

Looks good, and much safer there, IMO. How about a pic with the hood on?
PS I think it's time for new wiper blades. :p:

Ill grab a pic with the hood on, its still removed because i was working on some other modifications under there and some other stuff. first time my baby has been started in 2 years was Sunday.
i accidentally hit the wiper button and got a nasty metal on glass sound that's about as bad as nails on a chalkboard... guess they are not meant to sit in a garage for a few years...:thumbdwn:
Idk.. they might have a few thousand wipes left in them!:D

Very much so on the "safer" part.. thats one reason i seperated it and put a boot where it exits the hood.. now, when i roll the truck, instead of destroying the whole system, it will on tear the boot and the mount for the upper half off!
