Just picked up a 2000 Mountaineer.

Only issue I ma having is sometimes the horn blows a little, like in the middle of the night while the car is parked and keys not in it

The other day i was driving it and the horn went off and would not stop.

I had to pull over and I pulled relays until it stopped.

So now I have the horn relay out of the truck but this is not a good solution as I need to horn to work while I am driving around.

I do not think it is a clockspring issue as the horn does not work when the steering wheel center is pressed when the car is off.

The only thing that can sound the horn is the factory alarm.

So can I bypass / unplug the factory alarm?

Anyone else heard of this problem, searching I did not see this same issue.

Thanks!

I had a similar issue when parked, ignition off, and keys out. My horn would go off like the theft alarm was activated. Nothing tripped it. I replaced the battery under the hood, and it hasn't happened again.

Do you mean the main battery? That one tests well and is newer.

Yes, the main battery. Mine was past it's life date, and it was a Motorcraft brand.

First thought would be door agar switch but if it does it running then the alarm shouldn't go off. Does the lights flash when the horn honks? The signal wire from the steering wheel to the relay is a ground signal and could be grounding out in the column or clock spring.

If it was me I'd unplug it under the column going to the clock spring and put your relays and fuses back to see if it continues. Then you know if its in the wheel/clock spring or downstream.
