How do I know if my Explorer has a brake controler?

My 2000 V8 Explorer has a class III hitch that was installed by the owner befoer me. I have never towed with it myself. How can I find out if it has a brake controler installed or not?

The easiest way is look at your electric wires for the trailer...

4 wire plug (flat 'blade' shape)... no
7 wire plug (round cylinder) ... yes

I have the 4 wire plug.
Another question, Id like to install an electric brake controller and when I do am I limited to only using that plug or can I keep both incase I pull a trailer with one or the other plug?
