How do you get rid of a time delay while Windows XP shuts down?

I've always found that if chkdsk cannot fix the disk it is best to fit a new one and do a clean install. I have tried various disk fix tools and registry fix tools and none of them seem to work 100%. They all help but each one does a slightly different approach.

Well I have found that for IDE Seagate work quite well and for SATA Hitachi seems to be reasonable. If you want to go SATA then you could get a pci sata card. But the Seagate 500gb IDE disk is not bad and quite quick/cheap.

Windows is still giving me problems. I ran the Chkdsk utility after doing a system restore, and it showed multiple bad clusters. Now my graphics, and sound are messed up, and I can't open certain things like the device manager or system restore. Even video clips, and some pictures on the web don't work either. I have an SP2 disk which doesn't want to run either. I think I'll have to use the Win XP disk to restore my files. If this doesn't work, then I might have to get a different hard drive. I don't want to have to encounter constant errors everytime I try to start because data is constantly getting corrupted in bad clusters.

I got a seagate 80gb ide ill send you for $12 shipped. :) Sounds like your drive is junk.

Thats the biggest i have. I have another 80gb Hitachi but its SATA.
