how do you get shifter off

I removed the first rubber boot inside the truck, I see a big nut that does something, but not remove the shifter rod. Under that is another rubber cover, and under that rubber cover there is to star bolts, that seem lock tighted in. Should I take a piupe wrenth to the shifter rod, it appears treaded on, but has been possibly glued in place.

Ok that big nut that you see is what you will want to mess with. Take it off and put it on the oppisite side and tighen it down. It will make the bold/taperedshaft move out and the shifter will come off.
